Charlotte native joins CLFC after successful preseason

CHARLOTTE, NC (Tuesday, March 5, 2024) – Crown Legacy FC today announced the signing of forward Jonathan Nyandjo from University of North Carolina- Charlotte.

The Charlotte native earned an MLS NEXT Pro contract after a successful trial period during preseason.

Nyandjo, known as Jono by coaches and teammates, joins CLFC after earning first-team All-American honors and being named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in Division I college soccer.

“Jonathan is an impressive local talent who we have been tracking for the past few years with UNC- Charlotte,” said Assistant General Manager Bobby Belair. “We are proud to add another local talent to our squad and showcase the talent that exists in the Carolinas from various pathways. Jono’s connection to the city and club, as well as his maturity on and off the pitch, will help us maintain the competitive and connected environment we built last season.”

Nyandjo, 21, netted four goals and four assists in his senior campaign, leading the 49ers to an American Athletic Conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance. The forward also received first-team All-American Athletic Conference and all-tournament honors.

The Charlotte local played in 56 matches during four seasons at UNCC, where he scored 11 goals and added 9 assists in total.

Nyandjo is the older brother of Charlotte FC Academy product and 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star James Nyandjo.
