The Georgia native joins CLFC after winning a national championship with Syracuse University

Charlotte, NC (Thursday, March 16, 2023)- Crown Legacy FC today announced the Club has signed goalkeeper Russell Shealy from Syracuse University.

Shealy comes to the Queen City after winning the 2022 NCAA College Cup Title with Syracuse University.

“Russell is an accomplished goalkeeper who had a stellar season to finish his collegiate career at Syracuse,” said Technical Director Bobby Belair. “Russell was a sought-after prospect leading into the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, and we are excited to help him grow in the next stage of his development.”

Shealy earned multiple accolades throughout his time with the Orange, including an ACC Championship, All-ACC Second Team, NCAA College Cup Most Outstanding Defensive Player and 2022 ACC Tournament MVP. The goalkeeper also set records at Syracuse for goalkeeper minutes and wins in a season and won another National Championship during his Freshman season at the University of Maryland.

Shealy spent most of the preseason with Los Angeles Galaxy after being selected by the Western Conference club in the second round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.

The goalkeeper spent his youth career in Atlanta United’s academy.
