Keeping the Crew in Check
Saturday's matchup with Columbus marks the ninth meeting in series history. The Crown holds a slight edge over the Crew in the all-time series, posting a 3W-2L-3D record since 2022, with all of Charlotte's wins coming at Bank of America Stadium. The Crown is unbeaten at home against the Crew, having won its last three straight and drawing Columbus in their first meeting at Bank of America Stadium. Charlotte has been the only side of the two to keep a clean sheet in the series, doing so in both 2023 and 2024, and the only side to decide the result before halftime, with a 1-0 CLTFC victory on April 22, 2023.
Fresh Face
The Crown's newest Designated Player, Allan Saint-Maximin, made his CLTFC debut this past Tuesday with a 22-minute cameo off the bench in the Club's 1-0 loss against CF Pachuca in the Leagues Cup group stage. The winger immediately made his presence felt, getting off two shots and drawing a penalty kick in the waning minutes of the contest, which got the crowd roaring at Bank of America Stadium. Saint-Maximin will be active again and ready for his MLS debut, and whether he comes off the bench or slots into the starting XI, he will be ready to impress the crowd with his dribbling skills.
The Spaniard’s Return
Looking at one of Charlotte’s other Designated Players, Spanish attacker Pep Biel will return to the lineup after serving a red card suspension in The Crown’s last outing against CF Pachuca. Biel, now a member of the 20G/20A club, is currently riding a streak of five matches straight with a goal contribution in MLS play. In that stretch, Biel has scored three goals and added three assists, one of each being match-winning.
