Charlotte FC forward, Kerwin Vargas, was rewarded for his breakout season in MLS by receiving an invitation to join the Colombia U-23 team in preparation for the 2024 Summer Olympics. This marks Vargas's first-ever involvement with the Colombian National Team, a significant milestone in his young career.

The 21-year-old was signed to Charlotte FC in the summer of 2022, in the middle of the Club's inaugural season. He has since established himself as a regular contributor, playing a total of 42 MLS matches and starting in 26 of those. That tally doesn't include additional appearances in external competitions such as Leagues Cup and U.S. Open Cup.

In the Club's second season, Vargas solidified his position as one of the primary playmakers, ranking third in Shot Creating Actions (SCA) per 90 minutes with an impressive tally of 50. His direct involvement resulted in four goals and five assists, including a crucial match-winning goal against Inter Miami on the final day of the season, securing Charlotte FC's qualification for the playoffs. Noteworthy performances also earned Vargas consistent recognition in MLS's weekly series, 'Young Players of the Matchday', highlighting the league's best U-22 players each week.

Vargas has been recognized by his federation as one of the top young Colombian talents with his inclusion in the U-23 team. The forward has the opportunity to impress his federation and potentially earn a spot to represent his country in the 2024 Summer Olympics held in Paris. The Colombia U-23s will play against Peru on December 9th.
