Tim Ream will be honored by the U.S. Soccer Federation ahead of the United States’ match against Chile on September 29 at 8 p.m. ET in Ream’s hometown of St. Louis, Mo.
Ream will be celebrated for his national team career and the impact he has made on the St. Louis community.
The Charlotte FC defender’s first national team appearance came on November 17, 2010, in a friendly against South Africa. Ream has appeared in 86 international matches, wearing the captain’s armband in 26 of them, and has scored a goal and recorded four assists.
He recorded his sole goal for the United States in an international friendly on May 22, 2016, against Puerto Rico, scoring a second-chance goal on a rebound off the goalkeeper’s hands. Ream’s goal was the first of three in what became a 3-1 win for the United States.
Ream has played in numerous international competitions, including making two World Cup squads (2022, 2026) and playing eight matches in the competition. Ream started all four matches for the U.S. in the 2022 World Cup and captained the team in the 2026 World Cup, appearing in four of five matches.
“Tim was my first captain (as USMNT head coach),” Pochettino told media on May 30 ahead of the World Cup. “I’m so grateful he’s with us. He’s a great captain not only on the field — and maybe more importantly — off the field. He has the experience and capacity to be the positive leader we want.”
Ream was the oldest field player ever selected for the U.S. in both the Copa America and the World Cup, providing the international team with an experienced presence in the backline.
Before his celebration in St. Louis, Ream will make his 68th appearance for The Crown on September 26 when Charlotte FC takes on Chicago Fire at Bank of America Stadium.
