Charlotte FC Midfielder Pep Biel Named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 22

Biel was named to his third MLS Team of the Matchday in 2026 and eighth of his career 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Monday, August 24, 2026) – Charlotte FC midfielder Pep Biel has been named to MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 22. Biel garnered the honor following his 12th multi-goal contribution performance for The Crown on Saturday in Charlotte’s 3-1 victory over D.C. United. He is one shy of teammate Kristijan Kahlina’s Club record of nine appearances for Team of the Matchday.

The Crown extended their MLS regular-season unbeaten run to three following their 3-1 victory over D.C. United. Charlotte FC currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference and are unbeaten in seven of the last eight matches.

On Saturday, Biel ended the 1-1 deadlock in the 66th minute with a corner kick cross into the box for Will Cleary to head in his first career MLS goal and give The Crown a 2-1 lead.

The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder followed up with an insurance goal in the 77th minute when teammate Liel Abada dribbled into the box and found Biel towards the top of the penalty area, who then finished with a curler to the far post.

Biel moved to 19 goal contributions (11G/8A) with his assist to Cleary on the match-sealing goal. The Spaniard has 12 multi-goal contribution efforts during his time at Charlotte FC. He is now two away from tying Karol Swiderski for the all-time CLTFC record (48). Biel also recorded a new single-season best for goals with 11. 

Biel sits tied for third in the league with 19 goal contributions behind Evander’s 24 and Leo Messi’s 23.
