Three goals. Three important points. A great night had by all at Bank of America Stadium.
While Saturday night’s matchup between Charlotte FC and D.C. United featured a slow-paced first half, the second half brought plenty of excitement.
Charlotte’s first real chance came in the 41st minute. Ashley Westwood initiated the counterattack, but the effort resulted in Rodolfo Aloko’s shot sailing over the net.
A goal by Louis Munteanu gave D.C. the lead in the 55th minute.
However, the deficit was short-lived as Charlotte drew level in the 64th minute.
David Schnegg, playing against his former team, found pay dirt off a set piece to even things up.
And then less than three minutes later, Will Cleary converted on another set piece to earn his first MLS goal and deliver a lead to The Crown.
Pep Biel extended the lead in the 77th minute when he slotted home a third goal for The Crown.
It’s a vital victory for The Crown and a great rebound after a disappointing draw earlier in the week against Toronto.
Charlotte’s next test comes next weekend in Atlanta as The Crown is set for a clash against rivals Atlanta United. The reverse fixture ended in a 2-2 draw at Bank of America Stadium.
