There was nothing to separate the sides on Saturday night, as Charlotte FC and Inter Miami CF battled in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
Both squads had spirited attempts to break the deadlock, though no effort yielded results.
The first real danger of the match came when Miami midfielder David RuÃz saw his one-touch strike narrowly miss the net. Charlotte answered immediately, as forward Liel Abada came tantalizingly close to putting The Crown ahead.
Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina produced the game’s most dramatic moment by a wide margin.
In the 34th minute, Kahlina made a truly spectacular save, which seems to be routine for him. First, Kahlina denied a strong header attempt by Miami defender Ian Fray with his left hand. Then, while lying on his back, he swatted the ball away from rolling into the net.
In the second half, Wilfried Zaha nearly delivered the game’s first goal in the 63rd minute before Miami goalkeeper Rocco RÃos Novo made an alert save.
Miami Head Coach Javier Mascherano got ejected from the match in stoppage time, which provided some late-game drama.
Despite only taking away one point, Charlotte remains undefeated at home this season.
The Crown return to the pitch in one week’s time to host Red Bull New York at Bank of America Stadium at 7:30 pm.
